Kirklees Council have announced that they are considering the future of all but Huddersfield and Dewsbury Libraries. Jason spent the day visiting Lindley, Golcar, Marsden, Meltham, Honley and Holmfirth libraries to highlight the wonderful and invaluable service that they provide.
At Lindley library Jason spoke with Deirdre who uses the internet there 3 or 4 times a week. He also met with over 50 local residents who were using the library including a walking group and “Rhyme Time” for children.
At Golcar library Jason was chatting with residents who were using the Library to research their ancestry, and Marsden Library he heard how the community hub welcomes more than 200 people a day.
Jason then finished the day at Meltham and Honley and Holmfirth libraries where the computers and internet access were being well used. Jason took part in National Bookstart Week at Holmfirth Library in June.
Jason says, “Kirklees Councillors have to find a way to keep our local libraries open. They are well used and provide irreplaceable services on the doorstep of our local communities. I will work with all Councillors and community groups who share my vision of protecting and enhancing these community hubs.”
