As well as raising the council tax, Labour has other plans afoot to squeeze yet more money out of the residents of Kirklees. Parking charges in town centres are on the increase and Labour won't say by how much... until after the election on May 3rd.
The Labour Administration is now turning it's attention to smaller car parks. Their budget made provision for a consultation to introduce charges at these vital local amenities. For example, could Concorde St in Honley, Holly Bank Road in Lindley, New Street in Slaithwaite, the Goods Yard in Marsden and Meltham Road in Netherton all be the next car parks to become chargeable?
These 'stealth taxes' would be yet another expense for the people of Colne Valley and could turn our villages into ghost towns at a time when our local economy needs to be supported. Pictured below is Mat Noble, Council Candidate for Colne Valley Ward at the New St Car Park in Slaithwaite.
